Shopping list for remote control

Canon EOS Elan IIE / EOS 50E

These are the parts I used in my remote control. Where possible, I have included item codes and prices. The prices are correct as of January 1998. Given the nature of the components I don't expect their prices will change much, but if they do, let me know and I will update this page.

I've also included a list of the tools I used.

Note that it's often easier to buy stereo headphone cable with a 3.5mm plug and socket already fitted. In this case, there's no need to buy the stereo plug listed above.

You can extend the remote using a stereo 1/8" (3.5mm) mini plug to mini jack cable. A 6ft cable of this type costs $3.95 at Fry's Electronics.

Tools needed

  • Craft knife (Exacto or Stanley, etc.)
  • Screwdriver
  • Pliers
  • Soldering Iron
  • Solder
  • Wire Cutters (scissors may suffice)
A small drill may come in handy, but I managed without one by using a nail and a large screw.
